A Strictly Come Dancing star has revealed that she was ‘left in tears’ after suffering a ‘full breakdown’ during a recent venture.

Irish TV presenter Angela Scanlon was the ninth celebrity to be axed from the competition back in 2023, in a series which was won by Ellie Leach.

Paired with professional dancer Carlos Gu, Angela won the hearts of fans through her honesty about her anxiety and hilarious sense of humour.

‌The 41-year-old has revealed in a new Substack post the challenges she endure trekking India’s Himalayas in November last year.

Serving as a team leader for the CoppaFeel! charity climb, Angela was joined by Candice Brown, Sara Davis and Emma Willis.

Becoming overwhelmed by the challenge within days of starting it, Angela was looking to help motivate the female participants who all had breast cancer.

“A couple of days in – I cracked. Full breakdown. Ugly crying into my yak-themed duvet,” she wrote.

Sharing what she was thinking, Angela said: “What the actual f*** was I thinking? How arrogant was I to believe I’m equipped to hold these brilliant women at such a tender time?”

Admitting that she was ‘lonely’, Angela said she was enduring a ‘shouting-into-a-void kind of lonely’ for a lengthy period despite having a ‘full family life and busy work life’.

Noting that loneliness has been affecting her for years, Angela decided to launch a grassroots community in an attempt to help her and people like her.

Called the Hot Messers, the walking group is designed to allow people to go on walks as a group without any prior experience

“The kind [of people ] where you turn up in joggers, cry on a bench if you need to, and nobody blinks. The kind where you don’t need to filter yourself to fit,” she said.

Announced at the beginning of the year, the group has been helpful with allowing Angela to address ‘the riddle’ of anxiety.

Angela previously said that she attempted to deal with her anxiety in private after landing a job on The One Show.

“It was too late to backtrack, so I spent a long and lonely stint never once expressing fear or asking for the help of support I so desperately needed.

“I had built myself a little cage and wouldn’t let anyone in. The team were amazing, but I was riddled with anxiety,” she wrote in her book Joyrider.
